This pen looks like pen, writes like pen and will even feel like a pen to its user's hand, yet it’s a high definition Spycam DVR that records video in an impressive resolution of 1280 x 720. It will even capture still images with a resolution of 4032 x 3024 in JPG format!

The Spy Pen Video Camera comes with a 4GB microSD card that will hold up to an hour in video recordings and more than 10,000 pictures. If that’s not enough space you can expand the memory up to 32GB (not included). When it’s time for you to view your recordings, simply connect the DVR Pen HD to your computer’s USB port and then use your favorite JPG supporting software to view the pictures or an audio program to review the recordings.

The pen is an easy to carry length of 5 and 5/8 inches and 1/2 inch in diameter. The DVR Pen HD comes with a user manual, a USB cable, a key chain with built-in lens cover, and a Li-ion battery.

A. HD Spy Pen On/Off Button

1.Turn On

Move the mode switch (#5 – located inside the pen on the same side as the circuit board connector) to the No. 2 position (middle). The unit will turn on and a blue LED light will be visible.

After the initialization the red indicator light turns off. The pen is now in photo mode and the blue LED light is on. Note: After sliding the mode switch (#5) to the middle, do not operate the unit until it enters photo mode.

2.Slide the mode switch (#5) to the right. The LED light will turn off to indicate that the unit is off. Note: Remember to save the file before turning it off.

B.Spy Pen Photo Mode

Make sure to open the lens cover. After you turn on the unit, it will be in standby mode with the blue LED light on.

Press the operation key (#1) one time. The blue light will flash once, indicating that a photo has been taken. Tips to get the best picture: Take the photo in a well-lit area. Hold the pen steady.

The best quality pictures will be close up (within about 2 feet). C.Spy Pen Video Mode

Make sure to open the lens cover. After you turn on the unit, it will be in standby mode with the blue LED light on.

Press the operation key (#1) for 2 seconds. A red light LED light will come on and begin to flash and the blue LED light will turn off. The pen is now recording a video. Press the operation key again to stop the video and save the file. The flashing red LED light will turn off and the blue LED light will come on.

Tips to get the best quality video:

Take the videos in a well-lit area.

Hold the pen steady.

The best quality videos will be close up (within about 2 feet).

To improve the audio, do not block the microphone.

D.Spy Pen Audio Mode

Move the mode switch (#5) to the left to enter audio standby mode. The blue LED light will turn on. Press the operation key (#1) to start recording audio. The blue LED light will flash.

Press the operation key (#1) again to stop the audio recording and save the file. The blue LED light will come on.

E. Viewing the Files from the spy pen

Unscrew the pen in the middle to reveal the USB interface. Turn off the unit before connecting it to the computer. Insert the USB interface into an available USB port on your computer. Driver software for the DVR will be installed automatically, if this is the first time the USB interface has been inserted into the computer. You will get a message stating that the hardware has been set up and is ready for use.

If the computer does not recognize the USB interface, take it out and make sure it is being inserted properly. If it is, plug it back in or try a different drive. If a SD card in inserted in the pen, a window will appear showing the root directory (DCIM folder will be shown). Double-click on the DCIM folder and you will be shown the 100DSCIM folder where you will find your recordings.

F.Time and Date Reset

The date and time is shown in this format: YYYY.MM.DD, HH:MM:SS.

Turn off the unit before connecting it to the computer. Connect to the computer and turn the unit on. You should see the root directory. Right click on the directory background and select “New”. Name this new file “time.txt” (the name must be typed exactly)

Open the file you set up, input the date and time in this format: YYYY.MM.DD HH.MM.SS After you save the file, click on the “Safely Remove” icon and select which item to remove. Click “OK” and you will see a balloon on the bottom right side of your screen, indicating that it is now safe to remove the device. Once removed, turn the DVR back on and the date and time should be reset.

Connect the unit to your PC or the power supply to recharge it. During charging, the red LED light flashes. When it is full, the red light will stop flashing and stay on. Note: For the first 5 times you charge the battery, let the battery power drain all the way down before recharging. Once the charging indicator shows full, continue the charge for 30 more minutes before unplugging.

III. Troubleshooting

After moving the mode switch (#5) to the middle position, the LED light does not come on. Solution: Check to see if the power is on. If so, recharge the battery and try again. Red and blue LED lights are flashing at the same time and the unit turns off automatically. Solution: The storage card is full.
